Energy sources and conservation
Energy sources and conservation
Our energy sources should not be limited to PV/Solar.
It should be a combination of PV/Wind and many instances Geothermal.
There are also Tidal and Wave Energy, Thermal, Fuel cell, etc.
You could also use renewable energy to convert water into hydrogen which would give you fuel to power generators and cars. We should utilize renewable energy for desalinization and transport the water to its ultimate destination.
People have to realize that in order for this approach to be successful.
We need everyone on board to work together for this common goal.
The Government, Corporate America and the people of the United States must make a commitment to this cause and pursue it relentlessly.
Above all that, people have to concentrate on energy efficiency.
“It is cheaper to save energy than make energy”
Many people have to monitor their habits and be conscience of their daily habits in the use of energy and utilities. In changing your daily habits peoples can cut their energy costs between 30-60%, without any physical modification. Tests have proven for this to be correct. Imagine how much more you can conserve and save if you made some minor physical modifications.
There are many programs available to anyone which helps achieve these goals.
It is educating the public to conserve and not waste that will make the difference.
As a nation United States consumes more resources than any other country in the world.
Today’s economic crisis should serve as an impetus to implement a mission of conserving resources for all of the people in the United States. Conserve resources for our sake and the sake of future generations.
Thank you

Happiness
Happiness
We've all heard that money doesn't buy happiness, and that's certainly true. But there is one way to get it: Give money away.
The evidence is clear that gifts to charitable organizations and other worthy causes bring substantial life satisfaction to the givers.
People who give money to charity are 44 percent more likely than non-givers to say they're very happy. Volunteers are 41 percent more likely to be very happy than non-volunteers. It does not matter whether the gifts of money go to churches or symphony orchestras; religious giving and secular giving leave people equally happy, and far happier than people who don't give.
The Founders listed liberty right up there with the pursuit
of happiness as an objective that merited a struggle for our national independence. In fact, freedom and happiness are intimately related: People who consider themselves free are a lot happier than those who don't. In 2000 the General Social Survey revealed that people who personally feel "completely free" or "very free" were twice as likely as those who don't to say they're very happy about their lives.
Not all types of freedom are the same in terms of happiness, however. Researchers have shown that economic freedom brings happiness, as doe’s political and religious freedom. On the other hand, moral freedom — a lack of constraints on behavior—does not. People who feel they have unlimited moral choices in their lives when it comes to matters of sex or drugs, for example, tend to be un-happier than those who do not feel they have so many choices in life.
Americans appear to understand this quite well. When poll-
sters asked voters in the 2004 Presidential election what the most important issue facing America was, the issue voters chose above all others was "moral values." This beat out the economy, terrorism, the Iraq war, education, and health care as people's primary concern. Pundits and politicians would certainly like us to think otherwise, and critics scoffed at the conclusion, interpreting it as evidence that ordinary Americans were out of touch. But moral values are critical to Americans. This suggests that, as a people, we do best by protecting our political and economic freedoms and guarding against a culture that sanctions licentiousness.
Job Satisfaction leads to happiness
People who say they are very happy in their lives, 96 percent are also satisfied with their jobs. Furthermore, job satisfaction would seem to be causing overall happiness, not the other way around.
Lessons for America
The data tell us that what matters most for happiness is not having a lot of things but having healthy values. Without these values, our jobs and our economy will bring us soulless
toil and joyless riches. Our education will teach us nothing. There will be no reason to fight—or to make peace, for that matter—to protect our way of life. Our health-care system will keep us healthier, but what's the point of good health without a happy life to enjoy?
The facts can help remind us of what we should be paying attention to, as individuals and as families, if we want to be happy. There's also an important message here for public policy and politics. We must hold our leaders accountable for the facts on happiness and refuse to take it lightly when politicians abridge the values of faith, work, family, charity, and freedom. Candidates running for office should be grilled about happiness in debates and by the press, and their answers should determine our votes. Our happiness is simply too important to us—and to America —to do anything less. “How happy are you”

Water is the source of life - treasure it! R5.
Water is the source of life - treasure it! R5.
Water is the source of all life on earth. It touches every area of our lives. Without it, we could not thrive — we could not even survive.
Sustainability – “We strive to meet the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”.
We should discourage wastefulness and misuse, and promote efficiency and conservation.
"Conservation is really the cheapest source of supply,"
For the benefit of mankind, maintain the quality of life and preserve the peace and tranquility of world population. Water resources must be preserved - to sustain humanity. We must eliminate wasteful utilization of water, conserve our water sources and implement rigid conservation methods. We should utilize solar and or other source of renewable energy to operate desalinization projects from the oceans. Utilize renewable energy sources to purify and transport the water to its final destination. As world population increases the scarcity of water will become a cause for conflict, unless we take steps now to develop other sources of water for drinking, rainwater harvesting – storm-water and gray-water utilization. Designing of landscaping that uses minimal amount of water. "With power shortages and a water scarcity a constant threat across the West, it's time to look at water and energy in a new way,"
To preserve the future generations sustainability, we should look into urban farming – vertical farming. The term "urban farming" may conjure up a community garden where locals grow a few heads of lettuce. But some academics envision something quite different for the increasingly hungry world of the 21st century: a vertical farm that will do for agriculture what the skyscraper did for office space. Greenhouse giant: By stacking floors full of produce, a vertical farm could rake in $18 million a year.

Conservation vs. Efficiency
an Allegory
Picture in your mind’s eye a man who needs one bucket of water each day for his family’s needs. See the man walking each day to a public fountain, or well, located at the center of town. The man fills his bucket with water drawn from the public well. But, the man’s bucket has small holes in the bottom, and so by the time the man arrives back home, the bucket is only 25% full. Three fourths of the water leaked out on the way home. So the man walks back to the public well and draws another bucket of water and returns home only to discover that the bucket is again only 25% full. The man has made two trips to the public well and his family has only one half of a bucket of water to show for his effort. The man repeats his walk to the center of town two more times, for a total of four trips to the public well and back, and now he has a full bucket of water at his home for his family to use.
The man’s bucket leaked a total of three buckets of water onto the ground while walking back from the public well four times.
Now imagine that the town is experiencing a drought and all citizens are asked to CONSERVE water. The town’s conservation plan limits each family to two trips to the public well each day, for a total of two buckets of water (one bucket each trip).
Because the man’s bucket leaks so badly, his two trips to the public well only yield one half bucket of water for his family. This is because one and one half buckets of water will be leaked onto the ground during the two return trips from the well.
The man is so distraught that he refuses to walk to the well, feeling that it is not worth the effort. The wife, wanting to keep the family going asks her teenage son to please make the two trips to the well. The son happily agrees to help his family, but before he goes, he carefully examines the bucket and sees the tiny holes in the bottom. The son cleverly devises a plan. He plugs the holes with superglue. The son then walks to the public well where he gets a full bucket of water and returns proudly home without losing a single drop of water.
Because the bucket did not leak, the son only had to make one trip to the well to bring his family a full bucket of water. In that one trip, the son brought home twice the amount of water the father would have brought home using the bucket with holes in the bottom and making two trips to the well.

Conservation is not the same as efficiency
Energy efficiency means to do more with less. Conservation means to use less, usually by doing less.
Efficiency is achieved by improving technology so less energy is required to get the same or better results. A refrigerator that keeps your food cold with less energy or an automobile that gets better gas mileage without reducing power or performance are examples of advances in efficiency.
Conservation focuses on eliminating or reducing waste and unnecessary redundancy, such as two trips to the store when one trip should have been enough. Car pooling is another example of reducing waste: eliminating the need for two cars when one would be enough. Efforts to reduce waste often result in improving efficiency, so the two concepts can and do overlap.

Waste Recycling
How many barrels of oil are dumped into landfills every day in the form of disposable plastic bottles, containers and packaging? One million barrels of oil per day in the USA? Worldwide?
Stop using disposable plastics and start mimicking Nature's recycling system—demand biodegradable containers for your groceries, snacks and drinks.

Money is not the only measure of the price we pay for the things we consume. Our waste and over-consumption borrows from the future. When will the price become so high that people will want to apply the “penny saved is a penny earned” principle, and stop wasting so much?

Our war for energy independence and economic sustainability
The US government and other governments are not serious about energy efficiency and renewable energy development and implementation – they are too busy playing politics and capitulating to the Oil Companies.
IT is time to get series to avert an economic catastrophe – I hope it is not too late
The world needs to invest $50 trillion in energy in coming decades, building some 1,400 nuclear power plants and vastly expanding wind power, solar power, geothermal energy in order to halve greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, according to an energy study released.
The report by the Paris-based International Energy Agency envisions an “energy revolution” that would greatly reduce the world’s dependence on fossil fuels while maintaining steady economic growth.
“Meeting this target of 50 percent cut in emissions and replacing fossil fuel represents a formidable challenge, and we would require immediate policy action and technological transition on an unprecedented scale,” IEA Executive Director Nobuo Tanaka said.
The scenario for deeper cuts would require massive investment in energy technology development and deployment, a wide-ranging campaign to dramatically increase energy efficiency, and a wholesale shift to renewable sources of energy.
Assuming an average 3.4 percent global economic growth over the 2010-2050 period, governments and the private sector would have to make additional investments of $50 trillion in energy, or 1.2 percent of the world’s gross domestic product, the report said.
That would be an investment more than three times the current size of the entire
In addition, the world would have to construct 38 new nuclear power plants each year, and wind-power turbines would have to be increased by 18,000 units annually, solar energy output would have to be increased 20 fold every year.
Let us not forget as we are increasing the use of renewable energy and energy efficiency – the world population is increasing – the demand for energy by advancement in technology worldwide is also increasing. We have to take these factors into account.
Oil is going to hit at least $200 per barrel, gasoline at the pump will hit $6 or more per gallon, in some countries it is already $10 per gallon.
Most of the money would be in the commercialization of energy technologies developed by governments and the private sector.
“If industry is convinced there will be policy for serious, actions for accelerated development of renewable energy and efficiency, then these investments will be made by the private sector.”
People are hurting financially and economically, this must end, we should strive for a thriving economy with new technology for renewable energy and efficiency.
We have the technology and knowhow let us stop playing politics – unite our people and our nation in a common goal to avert an economic disaster and maintain our quality of life for generations to come.
Let us serve as an example to the rest of the world.
